Any item from within the REV'IT! collection is designed and developed according to our Engineered skin® design philosophy, or its urban specified compeer Tailored Technology.

This means all of our products are constructed with the values Performance, Innovation, and Design as a starting point. To give you an insight on what elements come to play before anything can be called motorcycle gear, we're happy to explain the different aspects that go into the fabrication of it.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHIES

In the continuous search to improve techniques and materials, REV’IT! has led the field in developing smart and innovative products over the years.

Engineered skin® design method In the continuous search to improve techniques and materials, REV’IT! has led the field in developing smart and innovative products over the years. Inspired by the natural qualities of the skin, REV’IT! has developed the unique Engineered skin® design method to improve the fit and performance of motorcycle safety apparel. The result is an ergonomic pre-shaped product that is capable of handling extreme pressure and offers the best balance of protection and comfort. REV’IT! began developing its Engineered skin® design method back in 2001, when it set out to improve the functional performance of materials by relocating seams to areas at lower risk for impact. This innovative concept further evolved with advances in 3D design, which allowed designers to observe a garment from every conceivable angle before placing a single physical stitch. This advance aided considerably in the development of new patterns and construction techniques. Every stitch that perforates an area of fabric or leather inherently compromises the material’s durability. But with the Engineered skin® construction method, engineers can mitigate potential failure points while improving overall performance. Durable, flexible and abrasion resistant materials are placed at key areas for maximum protection while maintaining comfort and freedom of movement. Applying stretch material in these areas helps REV’IT! strike a perfect balance in its garments between wearability and safety. Today the principles of Engineered skin® can be found in nearly every item REV’IT! develops, which indicates our commitment to safety, quality, and design. Engineered skin® has already made a significant mark on the motorcycle apparel industry, and this dynamic design philosophy will continue to influence future REV’IT! product development for years to come. Always evolving, always improving - Engineered skin® is part of our DNA. Tailored Technology design methoDThe Tailored Technology design philosophy combines our years of experience and deep-rooted technical knowledge with our abiding love for fashion and design. The Tailored Technology concept incorporates essential road protection and functional details into REV’IT!’s stylish and elegant urban collection. All REV’IT! products are designed following the Engineered skin® philosophy that consists of three core principles: safety, functionality, design. The urban collection, however, is designed according to the Tailored Technology design credo, which uses the same REV’IT! core principles, albeit with a different order; one that puts design first, followed by safety and functionality. All three principals are equally important in both philosophies; only the sequence in which they are used and the vision per design differs. Products with the Tailored Technology label are designed to integrate in daily life, combining just the right amount of fashionable detailing with cleverly disguised safety and functional features. These products provide both safety and comfort without sacrificing style. The result is a truly unique range of motorcycle apparel that is as sophisticated and stylish as it is functional and safe.

THE BASICS

The right combination of materials and features makes all the difference in the levels of functionality, comfort and safety of a product

All materials and features in our products are carefully selected to work together synergistically to enhance your riding experience.

OUTER SHELL

The outer shell is the first layer of a motorcycle garment, and the one that will hit the asphalt in the unfortunate case of a mishap.

Needless to say that abrasion resistance is the most important aspect of this part, but this aspect can be combined with other material characteristics depending on the use of the garment. In short there are two categories in which outer shell materials are divided; leather and textile. Both categories make up for numerous varieties that enable us to purpose-develop every piece of REV'IT! gear with the right outer shell material.

    PROTECTION

Often when the word "protection" is mentioned, people understandably think of protectors such as limb- and back protectors.

All REV'IT! clothing comes standard equipped with CE-rated limb protection. Depending on the use these can be of the essential CE-level 1 or the premium CE-level 2. This means that the energy that still passes through after an impact test needs to be less than 35KN (CE-level 1) or even less than 20KN (CE-level 2). The lesser energy passes through a protector, the lesser impact energy had to be dealt with by the human body. Back protectors are tested in a similar way, with a maximum of 18KN of residual energy earning the essential CE-level 1, and 9KN earning the premium CE-level 2.

    WATERPROOFING

Although the name does not suggest it, waterproofing is another form of protection that motorcycle gear provides.

In this case it is protection against the elements, keeping you dry and therefore helping to keep you warm as well. There are several ways to make motorcycle garment waterproof, but basically there are two aspects that come to play. First of all: the membrane. The membrane is the actual layer that makes a garment waterproof. On one side it prevents water drops from entering the garment, but at the same time it provides breathability that enables perspiration to move away from the body. We use both GORE –TEX® membranes as well as hydratex® membranes in our garments.

Serious adventure and touring riders who take on long distance traveling or commuting regardless of the weather will choose GORE-TEX® for its durable character and its unsurpassed breathability level. Those who ride in less extreme weather conditions, or when budget comes to play during the choice for a membrane, products that contain a hydratex® membrane offer a good alternative with similar waterproof characteristics. The other aspect that comes to play is the way the membrane is used inside the garment. For anyone riding mainly in bad weather conditions ideally the membrane is laminated to the outer shell, which ensures the lowest possible water pickup. Anyone riding in variable conditions will prefer the so-called liner to drop construction, in which the rider is able to take out the membrane and with that optimizing ventilation.

Click here to find out about the different membranes and the way they are used in our products.

    • GORE-TEX® membrane

The GORE-TEX® membrane is the essential element of all GORE-TEX® Gloves. It contains over 1.4 billion microscopic pores per square centimeter. These pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, but 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This makes the GORE-TEX® membrane completely waterproof from the outside, while allowing perspiration to escape from the inside. An oleophobic, or oil-hating, substance is integrated into the membrane, preventing the penetration of such compounds as body oils and insect repellent, which could otherwise affect the membrane.

    • hydratex® | Z-liner

A waterproof layer is laminated onto a carrier to construct the REV’IT! Hydratex® | Z-liner membrane. The carrier, in turn, protects the membrane against wear-and-tear damage, and the seams of the membrane are taped to ensure waterproofing. The Z- liner is constructed between the lining and the outer shell. The REV’IT! Hydratex® | Z-liner membrane is used in garments that demand a high level of all-weather protection.

    • WindBarrier®

The REV’IT! WindBarrier® membrane is laminated between two separate layers of fabric: a stretchable outer layer, and a soft fleece inner layer. This combination blocks against wind and helps repel water. Stopping the wind and rain helps prevent hypothermia, and improves a rider’s level of comfort and warmth.

    • Exkin® Air

The Exkin® Air insulation layer is an extremely lightweight, soft and warm, multi-layer structure that adds very little thickness to a jacket, pair of pants, or winter gloves. The optimum choice to keep your body warm, this padding is thin and perfectly soft, but still extremely warm. The CLO index (warmth insulation index) of Exkin® Air is among the highest on the market. With maximum insulation performance and virtually zero bulk, this is one of the top insulation materials on the market.

    • Fiberfill®

Fiberfill® consists of 100% polyester and offers excellent insulation. Fiberfill® is light so it does not weigh down garments. It is resistant to moisture and it will actually shed water rather than absorb it. Fiberfill is a manmade material and therefore anti-allergic and easy to care for.

    • PrimaLoft®

Primaloft® is made from a tightly woven microfiber structure, helping the body retain warmth and conserve energy.

    • schoeller®-PCM™

Schoeller®-PCM ™ keeps the motorcyclist in the temperature comfort zone. Unlike so-called passive insulation (the inner lining of clothing), breathable “Phase Changing Material” (PCM ™) actively reacts to temperature changes: if the body temperature rises, Schoeller®-PCM ™ stores the surplus heat. When the temperature drops, the stored heat is then released to warm the body. This process is made possible by using continuously active, minuscule microcapsules filled with paraffin, which change their dynamic state according to the body’s temperature. This helps the motorcyclist maintain an ideal body temperature.

This exclusive mix of fibres traps the air and retains body heat, keeping the motorcyclist warm. The material also stays soft and supple, without bulk, ensuring maximum comfort and freedom of movement for the motorcyclist.

    • THERMOLITE® Plus with Exkin® Platinum®

The Exkin® Platinum® insulation layer is made of a reflective material which preserves radiant body heat and prevents heat loss from the cold, an ultimate technology to improve the insulation properties of the product.

    • 3M™ Thinsulate® CS40

Thinsulate® is a synthetic fibre used for thermal insulation in clothing. Thinsulate® fibres are about 15 micrometres in diameter, which is thinner than the polyester fibres normally used in insulation for clothing such as gloves or winter jackets. Thinsulate® insulation is soft and compressible.

    • wind cuffs at lining

An elasticized windproof band on the inside of the cuffs prevents cold wind from entering through the sleeves.

    • wind cuffs at thermal liner

An elasticized windproof band on the inside of the cuffs prevents cold wind from entering through the sleeves.

    • WR zipper

A rubber seal added to this zipper makes it water repellent, preventing water from entering the pocket behind it.

    VENTILATION

Being cool in motorcycle gear is not just about looks.

Riding in warm –or hot- circumstances can make it tempting for anyone to change their motorcycle gear for something more airy. In order to stay protected while getting the right amount of breeze we have equipped many of our products with a certain amount of ventilation. This enables a rider to either pick a fully ventilated suit –for hot climates-, or to pick a suit that provides the option of opening and closing the ventilation depending on the circumstances. With this in mind we have also created our VCS | aquadefence system; providing a cool breeze when it's opened up, but creating a fully waterproof outer shell when closed.

    • VCS front zipper

The VCS front zipper offers air flow to cool the upper body over the full length of the front zipper. The air flow can be regulated by opening or closing the zipper.

    • fully perforated panels

These panels are fully perforated, allowing air to go through over the entire surface of the panel.

    • ventilated dual comp protector

The dual-comp protector consists of a 3D, pre-shaped honeycomb structure of TPU material, topped by an aluminum high-impact shield, for ultimate sliding. This lightweight hard part increases the level of protection significantly, without adding the considerable weight of traditional plastic hard parts. The dual comp protectors have been perforated to allow airflow to enter the gloves keeping your hands cool and comfortable.

    • GORE™ LOCKOUT™ Closure Technology

The GORE™ LOCKOUT™ Closure technology has a self-lubricating, toothless construction that opens and closes easily and delivers 100% waterproof protection. This new innovation retains its waterproof quality even after thousands of opening and closing cycles. The metal slider smoothly interlocks the two double channeled polymer tracks, to create a visually distinctive flat-front finish that make the garments stand out immediately.

    • VCS | aquadefence

When opened the aquadefence system allows direct ventilation to the body. When the zipper or panel is closed, it presses onto the incorporated rain gutter, the jacket is then 100% wind- and waterproof.  When the panel or zipper is closed the rain gutter will stop the water from entering via the ventilation holes, thereby keeping you dry and comfortable. (EU patent EP 2574249, US patent US 13/630.520)

    • VCS | garage

Our VCS zippers are placed strategically to cool the body with air flow, which can be regulated by opening or closing the zipper. REV’IT! has now developed an extra wide WR zipper with an injected garage. This garage is an excellent cover for the zipper slider and puller, maximizing the waterproofing of the zipper as well as optimising air flow, by capturing wind and directing it into the zipper. The zipper itself can also be welded to the outer shell material, instead of sewn, for maximum waterproofing and a sophisticated look.

    • VCS | panel

Removable panels for optimum ventilation. Ventilation is nice on warmer days, but not as desirable in cold weather. With removable ventilation-panels, you can decide for yourself: they can easily be removed to allow full ventilation of the jacket.

    • VCS | pockets

Ventilation and pocket combined, offering bigger ventilation surface. These pockets feature an extra strong mesh lining and can be used either as a pocket or as a vent. Ventilation pockets can be found on various REV’IT! products.

    • VCS | speed hump

The REV’IT! ventilated speed hump has an air inlet at the top of the hump. The perforated foam inside this leather speed hump is designed to let air flow through the garment, spreading over the rider’s back for comfortable ventilation. Extra cooling of the area is especially beneficial now that riders are wearing back protectors more and more.

    • VCS | speed hump hydra bag prepared

REV’IT! has taken its ventilated speed hump and improved it even further, with a new design that allows riders to put a hydra bag inside it. The REV’IT! ventilated speed hump has an air inlet at the top of the hump, and the perforated foam inside this leather speed hump is designed to let air flow through the garment, spreading over the rider’s back for comfortable ventilation. Extra cooling of the area is especially beneficial now that riders are wearing back protectors more and more – and now, with a hydra bag inside, riders can keep hydrated during races and rides.

    • VCS | zipper

Our VCS zippers are all located in strategic positions, where they offer excellent air flow to cool the body. The air flow can be regulated by opening or closing the zipper.
